A 5.1-magnitude earthquake rocks Assam and other states in the northeast

On the morning of January 3, a moderate earthquake with a Richter Scale of 5.1 was felt in areas of Assam and other northeastern regions. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter was situated in Myanmar at a depth of 127 kilometers, with coordinates of 94.97 E and 24.92 N. At 10:02 a.m., the earthquake occurred. Although other Northeastern states also experienced tremors, the NCS has not yet verified this. There have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties as of yet.

A magnitude 3.9 earthquake earlier this week caused minor vibrations to be felt in western and southwestern Sikkim on Thursday afternoon. The epicentre was around 264 kilometers from Tadong and 10 kilometers deep, according to the National Centre for Seismology. There have been no preliminary reports of fatalities or property loss after the earthquake. There was no damage, even if there were brief shocks. Earlier this week, a different earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 was discovered in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.

Both of these earthquakes show the typical seismic activity in the northeast, even if no significant destruction was seen in either case.
