A nun in Assam has been harassed, and TMC and Cong in Meghalaya denounce this

Nagaland:The Trinamool Congress and Meghalaya’s opposition Congress denounced and voiced grave worry over the alleged mistreatment of a missionary nun in Assam on Thursday. The assembly was told by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma that the government is aware of the situation and that he had brought it up with his colleague from Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who promised to take action.

Nevertheless, the government is unable to obtain all incident data, including the bus number, because the nun is still in shock. We don’t have the bus number; the date, time, and location are all that we know,” the Chief Minister stated.

Former legislature Speaker and TMC lawmaker Charles Pyngope moved a Zero Hour notice in the legislature, stating that on February 17, while traveling from Dudhnoi to Goalpara, Assam, a nun working in South Garo Hills was harassed in Goalpara.
Sister Rosemary left Dudhnoi at 11 a.m. and paid the full fare to Goalpara by bus. However, the bus conductor and a few other passengers soon started making disparaging remarks about Sister Rosemary, her religious habit (dress), and her faith, according to Pyngrope. Eventually, the nun was made to get off the bus at a remote location.

The TMC lawmaker further told the House that Sister Rosemary was harassed as a woman and a religious person, and that the encounter left the missionary nun shook and in excruciating mental torment. Pyngrope asked that the Meghalaya government take up the matter promptly with the Assam government, saying that such harassment is “uncalled for” and “unheard of.” Through the Speaker, Leader of the Opposition Ronnie V. Lyngdoh also sent a memo on the subject to the Chief Minister.
