Ajay Kumar Bhalla Stresses Govt’s Promise For Delivering Services To Displaced People

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Friday, held a detailed review meeting regarding the welfare of violence-affected displaced persons living in various relief camps across the state. Joined by Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, and senior officials, the Governor was briefed on the use of the IDPs portal for managing relief efforts.

Over 300 camps have been set up in Imphal Valley and hilly areas, currently sheltering around 57,000 individuals displaced since the ethnic violence on May 3, 2023. The Chief Secretary noted that the resettlement process, to be completed in three phases—July, October, and December—is already underway.

Most people will return to their original villages, while 9,000–10,000 from highly affected districts like Tengnoupal, Churachandpur, and Kangpokpi will be relocated to prefabricated homes.

The government is offering Rs 3.03 lakh to families whose homes were destroyed and financial support for partially damaged homes. Efforts are ongoing to restore free movement across the state.
