Bajaj General Insurance Limited has introduced Fetal Flourish, a new fetal health insurance rider aimed at meeting the growing consumer demand for coverage of advanced prenatal medical care. Announced in Pune on January 14, the rider is priced at an affordable premium of ₹1,025 and is offered with the company’s flagship health plans, My Health Care Plan and Health Guard.
Positioned as a consumer-focused addition to maternity insurance, Fetal Flourish shifts attention from delivery-centric coverage to fetal health during pregnancy. The rider is available for women aged 18 to 45 years and carries a nine-month waiting period from policy inception. It offers coverage of up to ₹2 lakh per maternity event for the first two maternity events under the base health indemnity policy.
The offering covers 16 specialised in-utero procedures that are increasingly required in high-risk pregnancies. These include amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, percutaneous umbilical blood sampling, fetal tissue biopsy, amnioinfusion and amnio-reduction, thoracoamniotic shunt for fetal pleural effusion, fetoscopy, fetoscopic laser surgery for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, fetal reduction, surgeries for neural tube defects, fetal cystoscopic surgery, FETO for congenital diaphragmatic hernia, amniotic band syndrome surgery, fetal aortic valvuloplasty, and intrauterine transfusion.
With reports showing that about 17% of women in India now give birth after the age of 35, pregnancy-related complications and out-of-pocket medical costs are rising.
Commenting on the launch, Dr. Tapan Singhel, MD and CEO of Bajaj General Insurance, said the rider aims to reduce financial stress for families during medically complex pregnancies, allowing them to focus on care and outcomes rather than costs.
