The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland unit and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state division have solidified their allegiance to Dr. Chumben Murry, the chosen candidate of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) for the impending Lok Sabha elections.A joint announcement from the State BJP media wing unveiled this strategic decision following a significant gathering in Guwahati on March 4. Present at the meeting were key figures including BJP’s State President, Benjamin Yepthomi, Deputy Chief Minister & BLP Leader Y. Patton, Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak, and State General Secretary Abhay Giri. The discourse revolved around devising electoral strategies and reinforcing the coalition’s commitment to ensuring a decisive victory. Reiterating their unwavering support for the PDA’s chosen candidate, the BJP leadership emphasized their dedication to bolstering the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
Additionally, State BJP officials participated in a joint Lok Sabha committee meeting, convening representatives from Manipur, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. Hosted at BJP North East Padma Bhavan in Guwahati, the session featured insights from BJP’s National General Secretary (Org) BL Santhosh and NCP Coordinator & National Secretary Rituraj Sinha. Simultaneously, NCP President, Vanthungo Odyuo, revealed the party’s endorsement of Dr. Chumben Murry as the PDA’s consensus candidate. Odyuo conveyed this pivotal decision to the party’s central leadership in Mumbai and Delhi, eliciting unanimous support for the candidate chosen by the alliance’s political partners in Nagaland. In a formal statement, Odyuo reaffirmed NCP’s commitment, referencing a previous “letter of support” submitted to the NDPP-led PDA government in March 2023.
The NCP president expressed optimism for reciprocal gestures from alliance partners, underlining the significance of unity in securing victory for the consensus candidate. Looking ahead, State BJP President Yepthomi is slated to embark on an extensive tour of the 60 assembly constituencies, commencing on March 10. This tour aims to foster cohesion among alliance partners and galvanize support for the PDA’s consensus candidate, Dr. Chumben Murry.
