A crowdfunded road project connecting Zeliangrong-inhabited areas across Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland is nearing completion in the Tamenglong district, marking a significant milestone for the community spread across the three northeastern states.
The road begins from Katangnam village under Tousem subdivision in Tamenglong and extends to the tri-junction linking the three states. According to the Katangnam–Tri Junction Assam, Nagaland, Manipur Road Construction Committee, the initiative has been undertaken entirely through community effort, symbolizing unity, shared responsibility, and collective determination.
Residents stated that the earlier stretch had deteriorated into an unsafe and unreliable track, causing severe hardship and making daily travel hazardous. With no timely institutional intervention, members of the Zeliangrong community stepped forward to restore and rebuild the crucial route.
The project has been sustained solely through crowdfunding and voluntary contributions, without support from external agencies or major contractors. Churches, civil society organizations, village councils, public representatives, farmers, daily wage earners, youth volunteers, and elders extended financial, physical, and moral assistance to complete the road.
Community leaders emphasized that the road represents more than just infrastructure. They described it as a reflection of grassroots participation and the long-standing tradition of self-reliance among the Zeliangrong people. Once completed, the road is expected to improve security, boost local economic activities, and strengthen cultural and social ties among communities in the three states.
Considered the shortest corridor connecting Zeliangrong areas across Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland, the route holds strategic importance for regional connectivity. The committee also recalled a previous community-driven initiative in which an approximately 15-kilometer road linking Katangnam and New Magulong Village was constructed through joint village efforts, even without a formal crowdfunding campaign.
The near completion of the present project stands as a testament to the power of collective action and community-led development in the region.
