DMC administrator: New Market is getting a huge makeover.

Dimapur’s New Market, which was first opened in the 1970s with bamboo and thatched booths, is undergoing a significant makeover by the urban development and municipal affairs department in an attempt to give tourists a better shopping experience and revitalized business atmosphere. It should be noted that the DMC informed all of the New Market allottees on the west side of the complex in October 2023 of the market complex’s planned destruction and restoration.Ward-19 GB in New Market Khekishe Aye praised the current initiatives for development and claimed that the people will gain from them. Zhaleo Rio, an expert on municipal issues and urban development, was praised by Aye for his vision and hard work. He claimed that Zhaleo’s proactive involvement and dedication to improving the urban environment had been crucial in helping the municipality achieve its goals.

DMC administrator W. Manpai Phom revealed the designs for a new market complex that will be around 15,000 square feet in size in an interview with Nagaland Post. According to Phom, the plan was to rearrange the area to provide room for parking and merchants.
He stated that following the building, the roof of the first level will line up with the freshly built parking layer. In addition, GB praised Zhaleo for his leadership and urged ongoing cooperation to raise the bar for urban development and municipal government, eventually improving the standard of living for stakeholders and citizens. The initiative intends to revitalize the region, with the freshly destroyed part expected to be finished in less than a year.

According to him, most of the current allottees are currently located on the first and ground floors. The DMC administrator has announced that traders from the destroyed building have temporarily moved into other market areas. Phom stated that the new facility will contain more than 200 vendors once it was completed. Although the facility is intended to be completed within 12 to 15 months with finance from local allottees, the demolition process started in January of this year.
