Duilumroi Hydroelectric Project inaugurated in Poilwa village in Nagaland

Nagaland’s Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, K.G. Kenye, officially inaugurated the 2.4 MW Duilumroi Hydro Electric Project on May 23, 2025. The inauguration ceremony, held at the project site in Poilwa Village, marked the successful completion of one of the state’s most ambitious renewable energy projects. Minister Kenye lauded the Power Department and project contractors for executing the project efficiently and within the scheduled timeline. He also extended his appreciation to the local communities of Poilwa and Heunambe for their unwavering support throughout the construction phase. “This is not just a power project, but a symbol of cooperation and progress,” said the minister. He also acknowledged Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the state government for their consistent financial and administrative backing.

The Duilumroi project, constructed under the State Plan at a cost of ₹40.29 crore, began in April 2021 with a target completion period of 36 months. It was technically commissioned on December 11, 2024. The project aims to boost local power supply, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and contribute to Nagaland’s clean energy targets. Speaking at the event, Power Secretary Asangla, IAS, emphasized the importance of maintaining the catchment area and preserving surrounding forest cover to ensure the long-term sustainability of the hydro project. She urged local stakeholders and neighboring villages to plant trees and manage the ecosystem collectively. Chief Engineer (Transmission & Generation), Er. Kasho Chishi, detailed the project timeline and praised the timely release of state funds, which helped avoid delays. Former Chief Engineer (T&G), Er. Penrithung Yanthan, described the project as a remarkable achievement despite logistical and technical challenges. “This accomplishment reflects the dedication of everyone involved,” he said.

The inauguration event was chaired by Chief Engineer (Distribution & Rural Electrification), Er. Nitovi A. Wotsa. The program began with an invocation prayer by Pastor Kwedigwambe Zeliang of Baptist Church, Poilwa. A comprehensive technical report was presented by Additional Chief Engineer (Civil), Er. Visakho Therie, highlighting the engineering features and environmental safeguards of the project. The vote of thanks was offered by Additional Chief Engineer (D&R), Er. R. Lobosang Jamir.
