After a successful tripartite meeting on the establishment of Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) on December 13, 2024, in New Delhi, the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) has voiced hope. Union Home Minister Amit Shah led the meeting, which was a continuation of talks between ENPO and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The creation of a distinct state, Frontier Nagaland, is still the principal desire of the people of Eastern Nagaland, according to ENPO officials, including President M. Honang Konyak and General Secretary Chingmak Chang.
However, ENPO has accepted the FNT plan for the time being, giving the area executive, legislative, and financial autonomy in light of the current issues facing the country. ENPO valued the MHA committee’s sincere and committed work in addressing the goals of the people of Eastern Nagaland, under the leadership of AK Mishra. Additionally, it conveyed confidence that the Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will uphold its pledge to Frontier Nagaland.
In February 2025, the next round of tripartite negotiations is planned. Some of the unresolved problems with the FNT concept will be the main topic of discussion. ENPO remains optimistic that the government would remain dedicated to achieving the goals of the Eastern Nagaland people. The Nagaland government’s prompt feedback on the MoS Draft, which advanced the last meeting, was also acknowledged by ENPO.
