Gauhati High Court’s Kohima Bench Unveils Northeast’s First Judicial Mobile App

The Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court has opened a new chapter in technology-driven judicial services by launching its official mobile application, the GHCKB App, becoming the first High Court bench in the Northeast to introduce such a platform.

The app was formally unveiled by Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar of the Gauhati High Court in the presence of Justices Sanjay Kumar Medhi and Arun Dev Choudhury, along with senior officials.

Chief Justice Kumar said the new application marks an important milestone for the Kohima Bench and highlighted that it was developed entirely in-house. Praising the ICT team, he noted that the Bench has embraced IT-enabled systems with efficiency and foresight. Describing the GHCKB App as “citizen-friendly,” he said it offers users real-time information, simple case-tracking tools and greater convenience for both lawyers and litigants.

The Chief Justice stressed that the app enhances transparency and ensures that people, including those living in remote regions, can stay updated about court proceedings. He urged members of the Bar to make full use of the app, adding that technology has meaning only when it is consistently adopted. He further mentioned that the app is compatible across most devices.

Sharing his experience at the ongoing Hornbill Festival in Kisama, Chief Justice Kumar spoke about the spirit of unity he witnessed and encouraged the legal fraternity to reflect the same camaraderie in their professional lives. He also advised young advocates to prepare thoroughly, recalling an incident where a young lawyer impressed the court by promptly producing a judgment during a hearing. He reminded the gathering that the Kohima Bench has produced distinguished lawyers, including those who have gone on to serve in the Supreme Court.

“You are not in a forgotten corner; you are part of the mainstream,” he said.

In his welcome address, Registrar of the Kohima Bench Ajongba Imchen said the presence of the Chief Justice symbolised his continued support. He described the app’s launch as a significant moment, noting that it would serve as a bridge between the Bench, the Bar and the public by offering easy access to essential court information.

Imchen said the app brings together case details, orders, cause lists and other updates on a single platform, making the judicial system easier for citizens to navigate. Many ordinary people, he noted, often face challenges in locating court orders, judgments or links for live-streaming. “This application is a response to those practical challenges,” he added.

The GHCKB App includes features such as daily cause lists, live-streaming of court proceedings, digital display boards, real-time case status, notices, and access to both High Court and district court websites. It also provides a WhatsApp channel for instant updates. The app is currently available for download on the Google Play Store, officials confirmed.
