The significant religious event, Ambubachi Mela which takes place every year in Assam Shaktipeeth Kamakhya Temple, Guwahati is to take place by June 22 to 26 June, 2024. The temple will be opened for devotees frot 8-9 am.
The Ambubachi Mela, dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya, Devi Sati who embodies female power. It is believed that after her death Devi Sati ‘s yoni(female sexual organ) fell on the site which became sacred site for the devotees.
During festival Goddess Kamakhya undergoes her annual menstrual cycle. The temple remains closed for three days. Then from the fourth day, the annual Ambubachi Mela officially begins, devotees from across the country come and offer their prayers.
