In New Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to plant 2.60 lakh tulip bulbs

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will start planting tulip bulbs on a massive scale at several notable spots throughout New Delhi on December 27 in an effort to improve the city’s aesthetics and reduce pollution. Tulip bulbs imported from the Netherlands will arrive in India by the next week of December, according to Vice Chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Kuljeet Singh Chahal, who spoke during a news conference at Palika Kendra. According to a release, Chahal then examined 20,700 preserved tulip bulbs that were sent to the NDMC Nursery on Purana Quila Road on Thursday by the CSIR-IHBT Research Center in Palampur.

According to Chahal, key holy sites in New Delhi, including Birla Mandir, Hanuman Mandir, and Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, have been decorated with tulip flowers this year. In order to provide consistent, vibrant, and appealing flower arrangements at all religious sites, tulip bulbs will be planted directly in the ground wherever suitable land is available, while blooming tulip plants in pots will be used for decorating in places where ground plantation is not practical.

He added that this year, NDMC will build tulip plantings in unique theme-based formations like “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” “One Nation One Election,” and “Viksit Bharat,” hence promoting environmental preservation and a sense of patriotism. He also discussed the specifics of past years’ tulip bulb purchases. 62,800 tulip bulbs were bought in fiscal year 2021–2022; 1,40,210 in fiscal year 2022–2023; 2,00,000 in fiscal year 2023–2024; and 3,25,000 in fiscal year 2024–2025.

According to Chahal, 5,17,500 tulip bulbs have been purchased this year, of which 1,92,500 are for the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and 3,25,000 are for the NDMC. About 2.25 lakh tulip bulbs from the NDMC share will be planted in places like Shanti Path, Central Park at Connaught Place, Convention Centre, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Sardar Patel Marg, Mandi House, Windsor Place, Sher Shah Suri Marg, and roundabouts close to the Vice President’s House. Another 1 lakh tulip bulbs will be planted in pots and made available for public purchase.
