In a landmark move, the Indian Army has officially taken over the management of the Major Ralengnao ‘Bob’ Khathing Museum of Valour in Arunachal Pradesh. The agreement, formalized today between the Indian Army and the Tawang District Administration, aims to enhance the preservation and promotion of the museum, which honours the legacy of Major Khathing. The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed at a ceremony attended by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, along with senior officials. Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang and Brigadier V.S. Rajput, Commander of the 190 Mountain Brigade, represented their respective sides during the signing event.
The museum, located near the Tawang War Memorial, commemorates Major Khathing’s pivotal role in integrating Tawang into India in 1951. Brigadier Rajput highlighted the hero’s historic mission, which secured India’s territorial integrity by peacefully annexing Tawang from Tibetan administration. Chief Minister Khandu praised the Indian Army for its efforts to preserve the museum and paid tribute to Major Khathing and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for their contributions to India’s unity. “Honouring our heroes is essential for inspiring future generations and preserving the history of our nation,” Khandu stated.
Creative Consultant Dr. Moji Riba shared insights into the museum’s mission to educate visitors about the region’s history and Major Khathing’s heroism. The Indian Army’s management is expected to enhance its role as a hub of learning and remembrance.
