‘It just freezes’: Spotify users fume over app crashes on Android devices

Spotify users on Android have reported that the app crashes and freezes despite being connected to stable Wi-Fi. Complaints first appeared on Spotify’s support forums and were later highlighted by 9to5Google. Users say the app becomes unresponsive right after logging in, often showing a “not responding” message, but works fine when Wi-Fi is turned off and cellular data is used instead. This issue mainly affects Samsung and Google Pixel devices.

One user noted that Spotify is unusable at home because it crashes only on Wi-Fi, which is necessary to connect to home speakers. Another reported that after updating to the latest Android version, the app on their phone and tablet became slow and unresponsive, while other apps worked fine. Users have tried various fixes suggested by Spotify without success.

Spotify acknowledged the problem, confirming that it occurs primarily on Samsung and Pixel phones connected to certain Wi-Fi networks and doesn’t happen when using mobile data. The company hasn’t provided a timeline for a fix, and some users suspect Chromecast-enabled devices might be involved. If affected, users will notice freezing or unresponsiveness on Wi-Fi but smooth operation on mobile data.
