Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki, representing Japan in India, embarked on a poignant journey on May 8th, 2024, as he visited the Naga Heritage Village Kisama Kohima. His itinerary included a solemn exploration of the World War II Museum, where he delved into Japan’s role in the historic Battle of Kohima. Immersing himself in the artifacts and photographic exhibitions, Ambassador Suzuki gained a deeper understanding of the events that unfolded during this significant chapter of history. He also viewed a documentary chronicling the Battle of Kohima, further enriching his experience.
Following his museum tour, Ambassador Suzuki joined entrepreneurs and officials from Nagaland for a lunch gathering at the Heritage Bamboo Hall, fostering cultural exchange and dialogue. Later in the day, Ambassador Suzuki, accompanied by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and other dignitaries, paid respects at the Kohima War Cemetery. In a solemn ceremony, wreaths were laid, and tributes were offered to honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives during the Battle of Kohima.
Continuing his commemorative visit, Ambassador Suzuki and the Japanese delegation made their way to the Kohima Cathedral. Notably, the construction of the cathedral was supported by the Japanese people as a tribute to their fallen compatriots in the Battle of Kohima during World War II. This symbolic gesture underscores the enduring bonds of remembrance and reconciliation between Japan and the people of Kohima.
