Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court Launches Northeast’s First Judicial Mobile App

The Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court has launched the GHCKB App, marking a significant advancement in technology-driven judicial services and becoming the first High Court bench in Northeast India to introduce a mobile application. The app was officially unveiled by Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar, alongside Justices Sanjay Kumar Medhi and Arun Dev Choudhury, and senior officials. This initiative reflects a milestone for the Kohima Bench as the application was developed in-house, showcasing the efficiency and foresight of the ICT team.

Chief Justice Kumar emphasized that the GHCKB App is “citizen-friendly,” offering real-time information, uncomplicated case-tracking tools, and convenience for lawyers and litigants alike. He highlighted the app’s role in enhancing transparency and ensuring that all individuals, including those from remote areas, can keep abreast of court proceedings. Kumar urged the legal community to utilize the app fully, asserting that technology serves its purpose only when consistently adopted, and mentioned that the app is compatible with most devices.

During the ongoing Hornbill Festival in Kisama, Chief Justice Kumar noted the spirit of unity and called on legal professionals to embody this sense of camaraderie in their work. He advised young lawyers to be well-prepared, recalling an incident where a junior lawyer impressed the court by producing a judgment swiftly. He reassured the audience that the Kohima Bench has produced notable lawyers who advanced to serve in the Supreme Court, affirming their significant role in the broader legal landscape.

Registrar Ajongba Imchen remarked on the launch’s importance, underscoring that it symbolizes the Chief Justice’s ongoing support. He described the app as a vital connection between the Bench, the Bar, and the public, providing easy access to important court information. Imchen noted that the app consolidates case details, orders, and cause lists in one accessible platform, facilitating citizen navigation through the judicial system, especially addressing the challenges many face in finding court-related information.

The GHCKB App features daily cause lists, live-streaming of court proceedings, digital display boards, real-time case status updates, notices, and access to High Court and district court websites. Additionally, it provides a WhatsApp channel for quick updates. The app is currently downloadable from the Google Play Store, enabling broader public engagement with the judicial process.
