Kohima Chamber of Commerce announces 12-hour shutdown to echo business community grievances

In a bold move to amplify the voices of the business community, the Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has declared a one-day shutdown on April 26th, 2024, from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This decision comes as a display of solidarity with the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), which has initiated an indefinite shutter down to address the longstanding grievances of local businesses. The move by KCCI underscores the shared challenges faced by businesses and traders, echoing the concerns raised by DCCI. Both chambers aim to draw attention to issues hindering the smooth functioning of commerce in the region.

Seeking support and cooperation from its members, civil societies, and the general public, KCCI has called for participation in this symbolic action. The chamber aims to convey the collective discontent of the business community and urge authorities to address the underlying issues. In a gesture of accommodation, the shutdown will exempt pharmacies, hotels, and bakeries to ensure continued access to essential services for medical needs and travelers within the district. This strategic exemption reflects KCCI’s commitment to balancing advocacy with practical considerations for public welfare.

As the shutdown date approaches, anticipation mounts regarding the impact of this collective action on the local business landscape. KCCI remains steadfast in its resolve to champion the interests of the business community and pursue meaningful dialogue with relevant stakeholders to address grievances and foster a conducive environment for commerce in Nagaland.
