Nagaland’s week-long celebration of “Shiksha Saptah” (Education Week), marking four years of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, reached its fifth day on Friday. The event, observed across both government and private schools in the state, highlights skill-based learning and digital education initiatives.
Organized to raise awareness among students about various skill development options, the week aims to encourage exploration of career paths beyond traditional academics. The focus includes integrating digital tools into learning to offer a holistic educational experience.
A key event took place at Thinuovicha Memorial Government Higher Secondary School in Kohima district. Students showcased their engagement through practical activities, including raised-bed preparation, soilless nursery setups, electrical wiring, king chili pickle making, and paper bag production. These activities underscored the school’s commitment to incorporating vocational skills into the curriculum.
Alongside these hands-on sessions, the event featured digital education initiatives, including live segments from NCERT on the role of technology in education. Smart TVs equipped with various digital education tools were provided as part of the E-Classroom initiative by Samagra Shiksha.
Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha, Temsunaro Aier, and other state officials visited the school, interacting with students and emphasizing the importance of hands-on skills for industry readiness. Aier urged both teachers and students to leverage the digital facilities to enhance classroom learning.
