Nagaland CM inspects landslide-hit NH-29, urges immediate repairs

Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio on Thursday personally inspected the landslide-affected stretch of National Highway-29 at Liezocha, Old BRTF (Near Temple), calling for urgent measures to restore the critical roadway. Deputy Commissioner Kohima B. Henok Buchem, NCS, Senior Superintendent of Police Khodi Rhetso, NPS, Chief Engineer Akho Zutso, and officials from the Public Works Department (NH), as well as district revenue and administrative departments, accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection.

Dr. Rio discussed both immediate and long-term solutions with officials, including widening the hillside, filling the damaged section, and consulting with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for technical guidance. He emphasized that the repair work must begin without delay to ensure motorable conditions at the earliest.

Highlighting the importance of NH-29 for regional connectivity, Dr. Rio directed that at least the metalling of the affected stretch be completed before the upcoming Hornbill Festival. He underlined that timely restoration of the highway is essential not only for daily commuters but also for smooth transport and tourism activities in the region.
