Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, lauding his immense contributions to India’s economic progress. Singh, aged 92, passed away at AIIMS Delhi on the evening of December 26.
Describing Singh as a “humble visionary,” Rio highlighted the former PM’s role in shaping India’s economic growth and praised his calm and wise leadership. Taking to social media platform X, Rio shared a heartfelt message along with a photograph of Singh, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, a humble visionary who shaped India’s economic growth. His calm leadership, wisdom, and humility will always be remembered. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace.”
Deputy Chief Ministers Y Patton and T R Zeliang also paid tribute, emphasizing Singh’s pivotal role in transforming India’s economy during his tenure as both Finance Minister and Prime Minister. Dr. Singh, known as the architect of India’s 1991 economic reforms, left an indelible mark on the nation with his visionary policies and unwavering dedication to public service. His passing marks the end of an era in Indian politics and economics.
