Nagaland’s Director General of Police (DGP), Rupin Sharma, has called on the public to utilize tribal organizations and civil society groups to lodge complaints about kidnappings for ransom, particularly involving underground outfits. Speaking during an official program, Sharma noted the growing incidents of abduction in Dimapur, Kohima, and other parts of the state.”Given the strong network of tribal bodies and NGOs in Nagaland, we urge citizens to work through them to file police complaints and maintain anonymity,” the DGP stated, emphasizing the need for public cooperation in tackling the issue.
Addressing the October 10 kidnapping of two businessmen by the NSCN-K (Nikki-Sumi) faction in Dimapur, Sharma revealed that police have identified the cadres involved but that they have gone underground. “We are pursuing all leads and will leave no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators to justice,” he assured. Sharma also called on the Nikki-Sumi faction to cooperate in arresting the kidnappers, suggesting it could improve their relationship with the public. However, he warned that anyone providing shelter to the culprits would face legal action.
Despite enhanced security measures in coordination with Assam Rifles, Sharma expressed concern over the persistence of such incidents, urging the public to trust the police and report any suspicious activity.
