Nagaland Legislative Assembly wraps up fruitful session with emphasis on state’s progress

The fourth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) concluded on March 1, as Speaker Sharingain Longkumer adjourned the session sine die. Spanning four days, the session delved into critical matters concerning the state’s development and governance. Breaking from tradition, Speaker Longkumer offered a non-partisan outlook on the proceedings, notably focusing on the Budget 2024-25. He lauded the budget’s holistic and people-centric approach in tackling Nagaland’s socio-economic challenges, hailing it as exemplary.

Appreciating the efforts of the chief minister and the finance minister in crafting the budget, Longkumer also commended senior government officials for translating budgetary allocations into actionable plans. Reflecting on the assembly’s 60th anniversary, he emphasized the pivotal role the present budget could play in shaping the state’s future.

Underlining the budget’s focus on connectivity, economic development, sports, culture, and welfare, Longkumer stressed the importance of societal transformation. He urged assembly members to consider the broader social ramifications of their decisions and advocated for progressive social reforms.
