Dimapur, Dec 6, 2024: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Nagaland police destroyed narcotics and psychotropic substances worth over Rs 34 crore in Dimapur on December 5. The destruction took place at the Dimapur Municipal Council dumping ground, under the supervision of the Drugs Disposal Committee (DDC), with senior officials present.
The seized drugs, including brown sugar, heroin, crystal meth, and opium straw, were confiscated in 79 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, across police stations in Dimapur. Methamphetamine, a highly addictive stimulant, was among the substances destroyed in the operation.
This destruction follows a similar operation in September 2024, when the Nagaland police seized narcotic drugs valued at Rs 30.05 crore. The operation, spanning from July to September, resulted in the arrest of 23 individuals, including 17 men and 6 women, and highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crime.
