Nagaland Police launches AVL 437 DUO vehicle emission check machine and traffic patrol vehicles

In a significant move towards environmental conservation and road safety, the Superintendent of Police, Kohima, Shri Bharat Laxman Markad, IPS, formally inaugurated the AVL 437 DUO Vehicle Emission Checking Machine and flagged off three traffic patrol motorcycles in a ceremony held at the SP Office, Kohima, today. Funded under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), the AVL 437 DUO is a state-of-the-art machine capable of efficiently checking emissions from both diesel and petrol vehicles. The launch signifies the Nagaland Police’s commitment to combating environmental pollution caused by vehicular emissions.

Addressing the gathering, SP Kohima highlighted the detrimental impact of vehicle emissions on the environment and stressed the importance of enforcing emission norms. He urged enforcement teams to be vigilant and dedicated in their duties, emphasizing the role of law enforcement in ensuring cleaner air for all. The programme, led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Kohima, commenced with a dedicatory prayer by an Associate Pastor from PUBC, Kohima, underscoring the significance of the initiative.

As part of the enforcement measures, random checks on vehicles suspected of violating emission norms will be conducted. The release also outlined the penalties for offenders under Section 190 (2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, including imprisonment for up to three months and/or fines for the first offence, and increased penalties for subsequent violations. The launch of the AVL 437 DUO and the deployment of traffic patrol vehicles mark a proactive step by the Nagaland Police towards ensuring road safety and environmental sustainability in the region.
