Nagaland Police warns public about WhatsApp hacking incidents by scammers

The public has received a warning from Nagaland Police over the rise in scammers’ use of WhatsApp hacking. Police said that scammers use WhatsApp or other platforms to deliver malicious links or APK files, which can corrupt a user’s account if clicked. Another way to steal accounts is to share the WhatsApp verification code with scammers. Accounts that have been compromised are sometimes used improperly to engage in other illegal activities or to ask the victim’s contacts for financial aid.

To improve account security, police advised everyone to use two-step verification. Avoid installing APK files or following links from unidentified sites. WhatsApp will never ask for your verification code, so don’t share it. In order to stop further exploitation, it further suggested that users notify contacts right once if their account has been compromised. It has been recommended that users reinstall the program and secure credentials in order to quickly restore compromised accounts. Additionally, before sending money, users are urged to get in touch with the person to verify the legitimacy of financial requests.
