Nagaland records highest GST growth in India at 37%

Nagaland has registered the highest Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue growth in the country for the ongoing 2025–26 financial year up to December 2025. According to data released recently, the State recorded a 37% rise in GST collections compared to the same period last year. This growth is much higher than the all-India average GST revenue growth of 6.8% for the same period. The information was shared in an official update issued by the CGST Dimapur Commissionerate. Officials noted that the rise in GST revenue has come even though GST rates were reduced on more than 375 goods and services under the GST 2.0 reforms in September 2025. Despite the rate cuts, there has been strong consumer spending in the State, which appears to have supported the increase in tax collections.

Nagaland has consistently been among the leading States in GST growth in recent months. As a consumer State with a smaller industrial base, the destination-based GST system has helped channel more revenue to Nagaland, improving its financial position. The release further stated that awareness programmes for taxpayers and businesses have played an important role in improving compliance. Authorities have also strengthened enforcement measures to ensure timely and honest tax declaration.

In addition, increased digitalisation of tax procedures has made filing and processing faster and more transparent. Officials believe this has encouraged more businesses to comply with GST rules, contributing to the steady rise in revenue.
