Nagaland Super League: Premier football league set for launch in 2024

Nagaland’s premier football league, officially named the Nagaland Super League (NSL), is gearing up for its inaugural season in 2024. This announcement was made during a recent governing body meeting chaired by Neibu Sekhose, president of the Nagaland Football Association (NFA) and executive member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The meeting focused on the framework and logistics for the NSL, deciding that the first edition will feature eight franchise teams competing throughout the season. The NSL media team announced that they would soon issue Letters of Interest and advertisements to invite potential franchise owners. Clear criteria for franchise ownership will also be published for public access.

To ensure smooth operations, the governing body has formed several committees tasked with overseeing logistical, technical, and promotional aspects of the league. With nine members present at the general body meeting, the NSL reaffirmed its commitment to promoting football excellence in Nagaland. The NSL aims to create a competitive platform for local footballers, fostering growth in the sport while highlighting the state’s rich football culture. The Nagaland Football Association has urged sports lovers and potential patrons to consider owning franchises in this exciting new league.

This meeting followed the state chief minister’s announcement during the inauguration of the 23rd Dr. T. Ao Inter-District Championships Trophy in Tuensang, where he expressed support for establishing a professional football league in Nagaland. Sekhose extended gratitude to the chief minister and the state government for their continued backing in bringing this vision to fruition.
