The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) and the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN) have announced their plans to commemorate August 14 as Naga Independence Day. This annual event symbolizes their ongoing resistance against what they view as India’s post-colonial oppression and a rejection of Indian sovereignty.
In a press statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Publicity of the GPRN, the organization reaffirmed its historical stance against India’s independence, which was declared on August 15, 1947. The statement emphasized Nagalim’s refusal to recognize the constitutions of both India and Myanmar (formerly Burma) and highlighted its historic boycott of Indian-sponsored elections.
The GPRN highlighted significant milestones in their political struggle, particularly the Amsterdam Joint Communique of July 11, 2002, and the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015, which it considers official acknowledgments of Nagalim’s unique history and sovereignty.
Despite expressing strong discontent with the Indian government’s handling of these agreements, the NSCN/GPRN reiterated its commitment to defending Nagalim’s sovereignty. The organization continues to pursue an honorable political resolution with both India and Myanmar, while maintaining its stance of resistance against what it perceives as external domination.
