Night Carnival 2024 begins with vibrant celebrations

The much-anticipated Dimapur Night Carnival (DNC) 2024 was inaugurated on December 12 by Minister for Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, at the Dimapur District Sports Council (DDSC) Complex. The event, organized jointly by the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), and Dimapur district administration, will run until December 16.In his address, Along commended the people of Dimapur, the district administration, and the police for their efforts in ensuring the success of the recently concluded Hornbill Festival 2024. Highlighting Dimapur’s critical role as Nagaland’s economic and cultural hub, he emphasized the city’s importance in driving the state’s progress.

The minister raised concerns about anti-social elements exploiting the city, particularly through illegal taxation at Dimapur gates. He revealed reports of truck drivers being coerced into paying such taxes, even during the Hornbill Festival. Along called for decisive action to secure Dimapur’s business environment, stating, “Economic stability and strength for the state will only come if business establishments and Dimapur are secure.” He also clarified that the Inner Line Permit (ILP) aims to regulate illegal immigration without displacing law-abiding residents, urging inclusivity for those contributing to Nagaland’s socio-economic growth.

The opening ceremony featured Matsung Ozukum as chairperson, an invocation by Pastor Kenei Kiso, and a welcome address by Deputy Commissioner and Carnival Chairman, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang. Along congratulated the organizers, expressing hope that the event would foster vibrant business activities and urged attendees to participate responsibly.
