The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) has acknowledged the resounding mandate received in the urban local body (ULB) elections as a testament to the confidence placed in the ruling coalition led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. In a joint statement issued by Ministers KG Kenye and Temjen Imna Along, the PDA expressed gratitude and appreciation to all government and non-governmental agencies for their efforts in ensuring peaceful and successful elections. They also extended sincere thanks to the electorate across the ULB areas.
The statement aimed to clarify and dispel misinformation circulating in various media platforms regarding the alliance. Kenye and Along affirmed that the alliance between the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains as robust as ever, ensuring smooth functioning of the PDA government. Reflecting on recent electoral outcomes, the ministers noted the alliance’s acceptance of the Lok Sabha election results with humility, despite the setback of losing the joint PDA candidate. They emphasized that such outcomes are respected with utmost regard for the people’s mandate.
Regarding the ULB elections, they clarified that while NDPP and BJP contested separately in their respective constituencies in most urban towns, there were friendly contests in only three councils based on local understanding and grassroots-level considerations. Assuring continued cohesion within the PDA, the ministers reiterated their commitment to teamwork and collective responsibility in governance. They pledged to maintain a positive spirit of alliance in forming the ULBs across Nagaland, ensuring inclusivity and unity in their approach.
