Project ‘UNNATI’ Seeds Self-Reliance for Nagaland Veterans

Station Headquarters Dimapur, in a landmark collaboration with the Department of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland, successfully concluded a two-day intensive workshop on Oyster Mushroom Cultivation at Rangapahar Military Station today.

The initiative, titled Project ‘UNNATI’, was specifically designed to empower Ex-Servicemen (ESM), Veer Naris, and Widows from all 16 districts of Nagaland. Recognizing the discipline and resourcefulness of the veteran community, the workshop provided a roadmap for transitioning from military service to successful agri-entrepreneurship.

Brigadier Shamsher Singh, Station Commander, Dimapur, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the “Once a Soldier, Always a Soldier” ethos and the importance of economic security in the “second innings” of a veteran’s life. Under the technical guidance of experts from the State Horticultural Nursery, Chumoukedima, participants underwent rigorous hands-on training—covering substrate preparation, spawning, and post-harvest management.

A highlight of the valedictory session, by Colonel Sartaj Singh, Administrative Commandant Dimapur , was the distribution of Official Course Certificates and Free Mushroom Starter Kits. These kits ensure that every participant can immediately establish their own home-based cultivation units.

“This is not just training; it is a mission to create 100 micro-entrepreneurs across Nagaland,” stated the Administrative Commandant. By leveraging the short 45-day growth cycle of oyster mushrooms, Project ‘UNNATI’ aims to foster an Atmanirbhar Nagaland while honoring the sacrifices of the military fraternity.
