SWITCH Mobility, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, unveiled its latest electric bus platform, the SWITCH EiV12, at a high-profile event attended by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The low-floor electric city bus, designed for the Indian market, features chassis-mounted batteries with over 400 kWh capacity and can seat up to 39 passengers.
Simultaneously, the company also launched the SWITCH E1 for the European market, showcasing its global electric vehicle capabilities. The buses highlight the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility and align with the government’s ‘Make in India’ vision.
The India electric city bus market is projected to grow at a 21% CAGR by 2030, with an expected electric vehicle penetration of 70%. The SWITCH EiV12 stands out with features like CCTV cameras, wheelchair accessibility, and a proprietary telematics system. Mahesh Babu, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, noted that the company has already received 1,800 orders, indicating strong market confidence in their electric bus technology.
