Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched the Fortuner and Legender Neo Drive 48V variants, introducing hybrid-assist technology designed to boost fuel efficiency and reduce emissions without compromising power. Powered by a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine paired with a 48-Volt belt-integrated starter generator and lithium-ion battery, these models bring segment-first features such as Smart Idle Start-Stop, Multi-Terrain Select, and a 360-degree panoramic camera, reflecting Toyota’s strategic focus on sustainable, high-performance vehicles in a growing premium SUV market.
Economically, the launch is poised to impact India’s automotive sector by pushing competitors toward greener technologies, while appealing to a niche of affluent consumers valuing fuel savings and advanced features. The Neo Drive variants, priced at Rs 44.72 lakh for Fortuner and Rs 50.09 lakh for Legender, are positioned to capture a premium segment seeking both utility and eco-conscious innovation.
The Neo Drive variants’ enhanced fuel efficiency and off-road capabilities align well with the region’s evolving consumer preferences and environmental awareness, suggesting strong market uptake.
