Toyota partners with Ohmium to scale green hydrogen innovation in India

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has signed an MoU with Bengaluru-based startup Ohmium International, a leader in modular Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers. The collaboration aims to co-develop scalable, integrated Green Hydrogen-based power solutions, marking a major step in clean-tech innovation aligned with the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

This partnership brings together Toyota’s fuel cell expertise and Ohmium’s agile, cost-effective electrolyzer technology to develop microgrid solutions for use in remote areas, data centers, and industrial hubs. Toyota will supply fuel cell modules and offer system integration support, while Ohmium leads in design, development, and prototype testing. The initiative emphasizes local manufacturing and innovation under the ‘Make in India’ framework.

A  city known for its tea and energy industries, the move signals promising prospects for hydrogen-powered transformation. Entrepreneurs and small-scale industries are exploring clean-tech alternatives to reduce reliance on diesel and transition to low-emission operations. The region’s logistics and agro-industrial segments could become early adopters of decentralized hydrogen solutions, opening doors for green startups and energy innovators.
