Windstorm damages houses, disrupts power in several Nagaland districts

Several districts of Nagaland have reported damage to houses and infrastructure after strong winds, rain and hailstorm lashed parts of the state over the past few days, officials said.In a press release, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) secretary Sentiwapang Aier said many households were affected as strong winds damaged houses and uprooted trees in different areas. In some places, the bad weather also led to disruption of power supply.According to reports received from districts, the damage has been reported from multiple locations, though no casualties or injuries have been recorded so far.

In Chumoukedima district, around 31 families were affected due to windstorm incidents reported from areas such as Piphema, Sovima and nearby villages. Houses suffered different levels of damage, including both kutcha and pucca structures. Some electric poles and community structures were also damaged. Officials said assessment of crop loss and evacuation details is still ongoing, while relief measures have been started.Further damage to houses and shops has also been reported from Piphema and surrounding areas, with more reports expected from the district.In Peren district, about 15 families and one primary health centre (PHC) were affected due to flash flood and related incidents. Three houses were fully damaged, eight were severely damaged and four were partially damaged. Additional damage was reported from Pehlan village under Ahthibung subdivision, as well as from New Jalukie village and areas under Ngwalwa circle.

In Mokokchung district, preliminary reports from Mangkolemba sub-division indicated damage due to strong winds, while detailed assessment is still being compiled.In Wokha district, damage has been reported from Bhandari and Baghty areas, with officials yet to complete a full assessment.In Zunheboto district, strong winds damaged the residential quarter of a nurse located near the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Akuluto.
