Wokha Police have made a breakthrough arrest connected to the theft of essential tower parts from the 132 kV Wokha – Sanis Transmission Line, which resulted in the collapse of the transmission tower in the Riphyim Old area, affecting Wokha District.The suspect, identified as Likho Kithan, aged 32 and a resident of Yikhum, currently residing in Tsumang ‘A’ colony Wokha, was apprehended on April 30 following intensive investigations. The theft of tower parts led to substantial damage to public property and disrupted power supply, prompting swift action from law enforcement authorities upon receiving a complaint from the Power Department. Under the supervision of K Soriso, Additional Superintendent of Police, a dedicated team was assembled to probe the matter.
Facing initial challenges with leads, the investigative team meticulously compiled a list of potential suspects and scrap dealers in the vicinity. With assistance from the Cyber Crime Cell DEF Wokha, the investigation narrowed down to Likho Kithan, the main accused in the case.
Likho Kithan stands charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sections 379 (theft) and 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others), along with pertinent provisions of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and Electricity Act.
