State deputy chief minister TR Zeliang, who is also in charge of the national highway portfolio, spoke with the Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) on Monday about the problems with the Kohima-Pedi-Peren road, which is 84.630 kilometers long and part of the Kohima-Lekie (Assam) road. At a meeting with the 15 BRTF commander in Dimapur on Monday, Zeliang brought up public concerns, especially from WAPO and NZPO, about how the union defense minister could officially launch an unfinished project, according to a press statement from the deputy chief minister’s office. The BRTF commander made it clear during the conversation that the inauguration would not in any way interfere with the current activities. The commander promised that the entire road segment will be finished by March 2025.
Additionally, it was revealed that the continuing work was a repair and maintenance project, which is done every five years and, in certain situations, after four years, rather than a new building project. The deputy chief minister requested that the BRTF establish a calendar and chainage that would allow for the achievement of particular goals within the allotted period. Zeliang further promised that the state government would support BRTF in whatever way possible to ensure that projects would be finished on schedule and with high-quality work. In order to improve cooperation and mutual understanding, the BRTF commander promised to keep the state administration informed about the work being done in the state.
